our story

In 2021, we made a significant decision to acquire this property, strategically located right next to the conservancy and just a stone’s throw away from the town center. It was an ideal location. Our names are Johan and Madeleine, and we embarked on an exciting journey to revamp and enhance each unit on the property. Our goal was to infuse each unit with style, coziness, and comfort.

We have a deep affection for the area we call home. Having the privilege of stepping out of our garden gate and directly into the conservancy is a daily delight. The opportunity to take our dog for a walk in the mountains, surrounded by nature, is truly special. Our conservancy is renowned as one of the best-maintained ones in South Africa, and we take great pride in that.

Clarens Village holds a special place in our hearts, and we relish the unique atmosphere and sense of community that this charming place offers.

Before entering the conservancy, visitors are required to pay a conservation fee. Permits are available for purchase on-site for added convenience. The conservancy offers a variety of choices for outdoor enthusiasts.

What a wonderful stay! The cottages are extremely neat and clean with a modern design. It is also way bigger than the normal Clarens cottages with a lovely living space, fireplace and deck overlooking the majestic mountains. It is less than 300m walking distance from restaurants, but tranquil and quiet. Listening to all the different kinds of birds was the best for me. The hosts are lovely, welcoming people and I would definitely come and write and stay here again.

An incredibly pleasant 4-night stay in the Rosemary Cottage @ Meander Stay. Like others mentioned, the combination of direct access to the Clarens conservation area and being within walking distance to restaurants, shops and the centre of the village is the ultimate blend of tranquility and things to do. We stayed at Meander Stay in Aug 2021. what a lovely place! Johan and Madeleine are awesome hosts with amazing hospitality! Unit is extremely well located…on the hiking trail in the conservancy, yet walking distance from town. The unit was clean and well equipped as well as comfortable! Fire place is awesome and we were welcomed with fresh farm milk, rusks and our first night’s wood on the house. Hosts were always available and gave great advice. Would go there again in a heartbeat…if you love Clarens and nature…this is the place to be! – Aug 2021

A lovely neat user-friendly cottage that is placed in an ideal spot. You can either roll out of bed and go for a walk on the river bush path or stroll up to the square for lunch or just sit on the verandah with a lovely view of the sandstone kranse while having a sundowner or preparing for a braai. The word RELAX comes to mind when I think of this place. Madeleine is a good host and makes you feel at home.
